At the Block Magazine, I started as a Marketing Intern and my main task was marketing database. I was constantly looking for new, local and international, advertising prospects for our magazine. Now, I have been hired as a part-time Marketing Assistant and work with the CEO of the magazine. I currently take care of sponsorship accounts and delegate that the Block magazine is properly distributed at sponsored events. Also, confirm that the Block's advertising is creatively, marketed. In addition, I have been involved in creating awareness and to increase magazine subscription at our fashion, magazine party. Which entailed to compile a list of 200 guests and to promote, conveniently, subcription sales at the party.

How to Land this Internship

It really depends on the person's personality and how passionate they are to work in fashion marketing. The Block Magazine is a small staff and you need to be a team player. Also be able to work hard and be creative in marketing strategies. As an intern, you should be not afraid to speak your voice because the staff at the Block are all willing to listen to your ideas and suggestions. Everyone has worked hard and comes from different background and have differnt experiences in their field. So, as intern they are willing to listen and help you to build your career. If it had to be calculated, it would scale to 60% personality and 40% hard work.

The Working Environment

We work in a lofty, heritage building. It is very friendly and casual. There aren't strict corporate culture. The CEO believes in his staff and doesn't put pressure on everyone. As long as everyone gets their work done before the due date. (We all get our work done before the due date) We are a small staff, so we work closely together and even help each other in editorial, publishing, marketing, trade shows, and design.

The Interview Process

During the interview, I was a bit nervous and I think he sensed it, so he started the interview with questions about my hobbies and friends. After I was comfortable, he asked the usual questions of:

Why do you want to work for the Block magazine?
What do you hope to gain out of this experience?
What kind of skills can you bring to the magazine?
What are you future short and long term goals?
Describe a situation when you had to come up with creative ideas and how effective was the results?
How do you take criticism or feedback?

Job Prospects

Yes, I am currently their only marketing assistant.
