My time in the internship program at Mullen has been more rewarding than I could have imagined. I accepted the internship after graduating in May. I was nervous about taking an internship instead of a full time job, but I knew I wanted to be in the advertising industry. Breaking into the industry with only Corporate Marketing experience (vs. agency) was difficult. Instead of settling for a full time Marketing job, I decided to take my chances at getting a job in an ad agency through an internship. As a side note, I suggest taking an advertising internship to any college graduate interested in working in the field. By interning, you can figure out if the agency is right for you and if so ideally you can get a job right from the internship.

Since arriving at Mullen, I can honestly say that I have not yet been bored. I am constantly learning. Sometimes that learning comes in the form of sitting in on meetings with media reps or internal teams for new business pitches. From these meetings, I have learned a tremendous amount about types of emerging media. This knowledge will only become more relevant as technology advances. Other times, I am tasked with making powerpoints for various presentations. I have also been a part of brainstorming sessions for potential media outlets for Mullen's various clients. The internship has also provided us the opportunity to develop a mock business pitch for Mullen's CEO, CCO, and New Business EVP.

I am happy to come to work everyday. People at Mullen are all about "honest engagement." No one pretends to understand everything. If you have a question, you should ask. People here are more than willing to answer and help. As long as you get your work done on time, you can pretty much do it in your own way. If that means, you would prefer to come in early and leave early, so be it. Or if you need to take a break and get a free coke from the cafeteria, you can. The work is most important. People here don't care about how it gets done, as long as it does and well.

As far as fun goes, the internship certainly has its perks. There are 18 interns all juniors, seniors, or recent graduates. We've gotten a chance to film a viral video for the New England Aquarium on the Boston Duck Tours, organize and play in a softball tournament against other Boston agencies, participate in community service by cleaning up a local beach, etc. The list goes on. This is a fun and rewarding internship. I highly recommend it.

Mullen also really does hire interns. I can say this as I have been offered a full time position directly from the internship. I'm very excited to begin my advertising career at Mullen.
