The best way I can think to describe Arnold is that creatives sit on floors 17-19, planners and executives on 20, and account on 21-22, then these people do not interact unless they're required to. Arnold continually talks about integrating accounts and teaming but I did not witness this first hand at my internship. A lot of the the things you get to do are beyond the getting coffee and working the copier function of other internships and the departments do their best to make you feel welcomed.

The Brown Bag Lunches are very useful as it gives you an opportunity to network with different people in the agency and learn how the different departments work together to produce ads.

My biggest gripe is that they promote the internship as a three month job interview. However, they really just put your resume in a file of intern resumes that they cross-check when you apply. After that it seems like you are just like any other applicant applying to them again. A better way for them to do this would be for a review at the end of your internship in which they state, "Yes, we would like you to contact us again when you are done with school and we will let you know what is available" or "No, you don't seem to be a good fit"

All-in-all Arnold was a fun place to work but has its shortcomings. Word around the Boston Advertising Market is that most people stop in at Arnold as a learning experience and talking point and move on to where they really want to be.

How to Land this Internship

As is customary with most marketing/advertising internships the key is to know someone. Most of the interns I talked to when I was there used family/friends/networks to get in rather than the traditional HR route.
